The Maybourne Beverly Hills Unveils Prêt-à-Portea

The Red Carpet Collection From Knightsbridge to Beverly Hills, the Beloved Fashion Tea launches Stateside with a Collection including Valentino, Vera Wang and Christian Louboutin

Fashion-themed pastries inspired by red carpet looks, served with champagne and tea on pink-striped china at The Maybourne Beverly Hills

Friday 28th February 2025, The Maybourne Beverly Hills launched Prêt-à-Portea, the legendary fashion tea from its London sister hotel, The Berkeley. After nearly two decades of delighting guests in London, the beloved high fashion take on afternoon tea will make its American debut with Prêt-à-Portea: The Red Carpet Collection. A favourite among fashionistas with a sweet tooth, Prêt-à-Portea has redefined afternoon tea with playful couture cakes turning celebrity fashion moments into edible art. Prêt-à-Portea: The Red Carpet Collection, reflecting its new LA home will feature a curation of cakes that pay homage to iconic red carpet moments, from Björk’s famous Oscar swan dress by Marjan Pejoski to JLo’s infamous green Versace gown at the Grammy’s.

Served in the hotel’s Terrace Tearoom just round the corner from fashion favourite Rodeo Drive, guests will enjoy a glamorous tea experience where English garden charm meets Hollywood chic. The pastries, crafted by Executive Pastry Chef Brooke Martin, are presented on peach and white striped bone China by French porcelain brand Bernardaud.

“The Berkeley broke the mould for afternoon tea when they debuted Prêt-à-Portea nearly 20 years ago and we are very proud to now bring it home to The Maybourne Beverly Hills ,” said Sam Jagger, General Manager, The Maybourne Beverly Hills. “We are honouring the tradition from London with a unique LA spin paying homage to our destination in celebrating some of the most iconic moments in Red Carpet history.”

Brooke Martin, Executive Pastry Chef said “Designing Prêt-à-Portea: The Red Carpet Collection has been an inspiring creative challenge as we were determined to get every detail right. Each cake tells a story, reimagining these legendary fashion moments through the art of pastry.”

First up on the red carpet is Björk’s swan dress from the 2001 Oscars, transformed into a pavlova with passion fruit ganache, swan meringues, and sugar eggs. Michelle Williams’s saffron Vera Wang gown from the 2006 Oscars is reimagined as a biscuit with lemon vanilla royal icing, evoking its flowing silhouette. Lupita Nyong’o’s pearl-embellished Calvin Klein gown from the 2015 Oscars inspires a Vanilla St. Honoré with white chocolate pearls. Taylor Swift’s 2021 Grammys look, featuring Christian Louboutin ankle wrap sandals, is recreated as a biscuit with whipped vanilla royal pink icing. Billy Porter’s head-turning Giles Deacon ensemble from the 2020 Oscars is transformed into coffee mousse with pecan praline, chocolate feathers, and gold dust. Jennifer Lopez’s iconic green Versace gown from the 2000 Grammys is reimagined as coconut mousse with pineapple-lime chutney and pistachio sponge, glazed in lime, and topped with white chocolate and mango glass. Adding a pop of colour, Angela Bassett’s Judith Leiber clutch from the 2021 Oscars appears as a black cherry sacher torte with milk chocolate crémeux and cherry praline. Margot Robbie’s Chanel ensemble from the 2021 Oscars appears as an Earl Grey mousse éclair dipped in a silver-lustered milk chocolate glaze. Finally, Zendaya’s Valentino gown from the 2023 SAG Awards is interpreted as a strawberry mousse with a lychee gelée centre on lemon shortbread, complete with hand-piped roses for the final flourish.

Prêt-à-Portea: The Red Carpet Collection launched on Friday 28th February and will be served Friday through Sunday each week with two seatings at 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm. The experience includes a selection of delectable tea sandwiches, scones, and savoury delights, along with nine gorgeous couture-inspired desserts, and a glass of champagne.
