The Fat Car
Fat Convertible (2019), by Austrian artist Erwin Wurm, offers a gently subversive take on an icon of modern aspiration. Cast in aluminium and lacquered to a high sheen, its softly inflated form transforms the familiar convertible into something both playful and poetic. With characteristic wit, Wurm reimagines the car as a symbol of status, inviting us to look again at the objects that shape contemporary life - revealing, beneath the humour, a quietly considered reflection on culture and desire.
Fat Convertible is currently installed outside The Berkeley.

History & Heritage
The Berkeley started life some 300 years ago as a coffee house on the busy corner of Piccadilly and Berkeley Street. It soon transformed into the hotel we know today – a special favourite with London connoisseurs, and an essential reservation for the well-informed international traveller, with a rich history and heritage that makes it a one-of-a-kind stay.
